Epic combing katana drawing2/26/2024 ![]() I've been tempted to make that switch also.Īfter a 30+ year hiatus, I've picked up DM'ing a campaign again played with friends I 've known since junior high. I don't play 2e, but if I'm not mistaken, both indoor/outdoor movement is given in 1" = yards in that system. Gnomes, dwarves, halflings should not have the same as elves and humans base 12".īut this abstraction is more meaningful for outdoor and overland daily movement rates - for indoor movement rates, the suspense of disbelief required for the AD&D 1e indoor movement rates is sometimes too painful to bear. I was referring more to movement rates given as a whole, that the MM rates are certainly for armored dwarves and gnomes, thus should translate as a base move one lower than their normal move of a 9" base. I'm adding this to my house rules and making a halfling thief happy. True, 12' per 60 seconds is so damn slow anyway, that the 'wee folk could manage it, too. Given that moving silently has a maximum rate of 12 feet per 60 seconds I'm pretty comfortable with allowing that for the smaller folk. In the end, to restate the obvious, everyone should be as quiet as possible, minimize light, and stop as often as possible to at least listen.ĭeManis wrote: ↑ Fri 3:20 am(some would have ALL PC's races move at 12", I don't think so) Here, for your entertainment, is the “A.D.D.S.S.H.A.B.” (stealing shamelessly from the ADDICT), the ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® rules for Moving Silently, Surprise, Hiding in Shadows and Backstabbing, as close to BTB as I understand (and could find references to support) and then what I hope will be a guide for various and sundry situations that can make life interesting. #3) You can do both.and monsters can too!!!! #2) You must be silent to surprise.and monsters can too!!!! And it is hard to do if they have "Spidey Senses", or if they can see, hear or smell you. #1) You must hide in shadows to back-stab.and monsters can too!!!! And it is hard to do if they are smart or tough, or if they can see, hear or smell you. The short & sweet answer for how it all works is: The main changes in V2.0 were that I cleaned up a few monsters I missed on first go round and let go of my dreams of using Reaction Adjustment as a silver bullet. Since then, we have been re-running old modules, living and dying by strict BTB rules, those which were simple editing errors and those situations which are “none of the above”. I presented my findings (version 1) to a group of new players (and dumped link in workshop since it was still "beta" / WIP). There are also a few completely vague situations which can only be adjudicated by a GM, since there’s either very little information as to how to rule (such as regarding Teleportation) or there are multiple conflicting descriptions about how to rule (such as regarding Gaze attacks). I also came to the conclusion that poor editing of MM, MMII and FF in the monster descriptions creates a need for logical inferences to be drawn regarding the abilities of numerous monsters. Couple of years ago, I combed the rules and found many BTB references to those topics.
